Do you have a favorite collage series you have created? Have many but would say the topographical bird series is and will always be in my top 5. The series was born in a sea of many tears (thankfully none hit the paper) and resulted in something wonderful.
My ex-lover (I know, cringe, but that’s what we labeled ourselves) and now friend (not a story for today) pebbles me with some amazing collage materials. On the day we finally broke things off, he gave me this bird identification poster he’d just found.
Months after I pulled everything out to collage through my feelings. It was therapeutic, as is most of my art. Fast forward even farther to after I joined my local chapter of the feminist bird club (yes, this exists and you should check it out if you are a bird nerd like me) and they were calling for artists to donate for a fundraiser. Immediately thought of my birds and was thrilled to fundraise for Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico. I framed these lovelies and put them up for raffle. Was so thrilled to see others’ excitement for the birdies and we were able to raise over $1500 for the center across the entire raffle. It made my heart glow that my pain could be turned into something meaningful.
Perfect gift for your local bird nerd who loves a simple yet effective design. Whether you buy one or four of these birds, know that 20% of the profits go to the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico and New Mexico Wild (who supports the preservation of Chaco lands).
This is a handcrafted paper collage from Chaco Canyon semi-transparent topographical maps and an old bird identification poster.
You're purchasing a 5×7 png digital download file. No physical item will be shipped to you and the frame is not included.
